EASY HOMEMADE CHEDDAR & CHIVE BISCUITS

Sometimes, we just need something good and savory to pair with our breakfast or to stand alone as an afternoon snack. These cheddar and chive biscuits are my favorite right now. They’re super easy to make and they only take about 25 minutes from start to pulling them out of the oven.

Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • 4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar

  • 3/4 cup butter

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 cup of shredded cheese

  • 1 1/2 tbsp of Trader Joes Onion Salt*

*I like to use the Trader Joe’s Onion Salt because, in addition to granulated onion, it also contains garlic, minced onion, kosher salt, green onion, and dried chives. The unique flavor of this onion salt really rounds out the taste of the biscuits and keeps you from needing to add other ingredients into the recipe.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, shredded cheese, and onion salt into a mixing bowl.

  3. Take cold butter and use cheese grater to grate butter into the dry mix.

  4. Add milk, eggs, and then mix together until the dough becomes sticky. Note: Don’t over mix. You want the butter to remain cold and in sections.

  5. Roll dough on floured surface to about a half an inch.

  6. Using a floured round cookie cutter (or small cup) cut out 10-12 circles.

  7. Place biscuits on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  9. Let biscuits cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
