HOSPITALITY: MAKING YOUR GUEST FEEL WELCOME
Throughout the years, we've had the honor of hosting guests in our home. I always hope to leave an impression on the people who stay with me. I desire for their time to be memorable and sweet. It's one thing to offer room with privacy and a place to sleep. But how can you make your guests feel welcomed, thought of, and appreciated? Over time, I've picked up some ideas from close friends and family and made them a practice of my own. These are by no means the best way to do things, but they are at least a good place to start.
WELCOMED
Whether I'm able to personally welcome my guest or I'm leaving a key to let themselves in, I want to make my guest feel welcomed. There are many different ways of doing this. One of my favorite ways of welcoming guests is with a personal handwritten note. This doesn't have to be anything extravagant, just a simple gesture that lets them know how glad you are to have them staying in your home.
THOUGHT OF
An easy way to be thoughtful is to leave out fresh towels, washcloths, bar of soap, etc. This communicates to your guest that you have put thought and consideration into their stay with you.
After a long trip, your guests may have exhausted the batteries on their phones or other electronic devices. Having a charger next to the bed and easily accessible is a simple way to anticipate their need.
Whenever you travel, something essential can easily be forgotten. I've put together a small "In Case You Forgot Something" basket on the dresser. This is filled with travel sized essentials and other various items that may be needed on an out-of-town visit.
APPRECIATED
Leaving a small token or gift on the bed is another way you can make your guest feel appreciated. This can be their favorite candy or a small sampling of a local offering.
It's also fun to have a guest book out for visitors to sign. This helps them know their visit is valued and that they have become an intimate part of your family for a short time and you want to remember it in permanent way. And if your're anything like me, it's always great to flip back through the memories.
What are some ways you make an extra effort to make your guests feel welcomed, thought of, and appreciated?
