THE GIANTS - CA

These are a few moments captured from our visit to Muir Woods and The Avenue of the Giants. There's something about standing next to one of these HUGE trees that brings a fresh perspective. It caused me to realize - all over again - just how small I am in this world. These trees were breathtaking. I’d never seen anything like them. It was the most incredible thing, standing next to one of these “giants” and looking up - simply glorious! Gazing up and realizing you're under a canopy of trees was breathtaking! I just wanted to get lost in the forests.

Getting to experience these amazing sights with my precious family made it even better. Whenever we go on trips, one of our favorite things to do is learn fun facts about the area. We love picking up little guide books or free brochures. We learned the Redwoods are so immense that they live in three climatic zones at once! The base of each tree is in one set of climatic conditions, the stem in an other, and crown in yet another. These trees were so massive! We also learned that Redwood roots grow only a few feed down into the soil, but they grow laterally and a hundred feet or more. They can intertwine and graft onto one another, thus helping to hold each other up. Isn’t that crazy!?

What are some of your favorite places that you've explored?
